Sapna Awasthi

Sapna Awasthi made a tremendous name for herself in Bollywood, and has been assured of a mention in music history with A.R. Rahman's super hit "Chaiyya Chaiyya" in Dil Se.

Sapna Awasthi was a housewife, with almost no aspirations to her present stardom. She had received extensive classical training from a young age; in fact she studied classical music for 5 years at Lucknow University.

But life had more to offer her. Milind of the song writing team of Anand-Milind was a family friend, and at his engagement party Sapna sang on stage a brilliant rendition of Banno. Thus she got her break in the movies with Dushmani.

Sapna continued to make music news with Pardesi Pardesi from Raja Hindustani. Her earthy, strong folksy voice has won her millions of fans. One her latest hits is the Khallas number in Company.

An avid reader and theatre enthusiast in her spare time, she enjoys varied works - Shakespeare and the Hindi author Premchand.
